We sang and played jazz standards and classic tunes in both English and Mandarin for the mid-autumn festival celebrations for Golden Wings Wine at Faber Vineyard, Swan Valley past weekend. Special thanks to TMI studio for having us.
Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations for Golden Wings
Polkadot + Moonbeam were invited to perform for a buffet luncheon at Faber Vineyard in the Swan Valley just 30mins from the Perth metro area. It was definitely Spring over here in WA, but on the other hemisphere, many are just preparing for the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations on Friday 13th September 2019. It is a huge affair for Chinese because traditionally, this involved a massive family reunion over food, tea and mooncakes. Sometimes with lanterns. It was a time to be with family.
We felt rather honoured to be a part since our music was to bring comfort and familiarity to the overseas Chinese students studying here. We sang classic tunes arranged in our jazz style, and also presented my mandarin lyrics to Duke Ellington’s It Don’t Mean A Thing. It was wonderful to see how music connects beyond cultures.
It was also an eye-opener for us since we had never had lamb roasted on a spit. They welcomed us and passionately offered us the roasted lamb, along with Golden Wings wine from Australia. It was honestly a little warm for wine and spit-roasted lamb that day, but we just couldn’t resist their hospitality. Besides it was really quality food and wine!
Many thanks to TMI studio for the following photography and footage of that wonderful day.
To all our friends celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival tomorrow, have a wonderful celebration. 中秋快樂!
xx
