That Little Matcha Girl

You might have noticed a pretty little cafe along Preston Street in Como, South Perth. A bright little street overlooking the waters just perched atop a gentle slope.

P+M’s Winter burrow last Sat

Polkadot + Moonbeam had the pleasure of playing there last week. And in a week of cold wet days, that morning was sublime – sunshine, matcha and ukulele jazz. We also made some new friends: Anabel and family (Daddy, Violet, Osi, Coco) and company, Lim, our new greyhound pal, and of course the proud owner of the cafe. The space is cosy and just a perfect nook for us to rest our paws over matcha and jazz improv.

The highlight of the gig for me was Nat Cole’s LOVE (and the rock ending, teeth, grit and grind… 😅). You can spot that funny video on our Instagram (apugnosedream). But we also loved playing our light instrumentals over Jobim, Jimmy Van Heusen…classics for the Saturday morning crowd.

The matcha was beautiful with genmai in them – like magic drops of texture and earth in the smooth creamy bittersweet. Moonbeam’s mocha was a dream 💛.

Thank you Little Matcha Girl for having us. Thank you all. We hope to see you all soon!

Weddings: P.S I Heart You

“As we walked up the music was the first thing I heard and I thought – wow, this sounds like the best party in the world! The music was really important to us, and we absolutely loved your unique sound and it truly made our day. Thanks so much for making last Saturday one of the best days of our lives.” – Annaliese + Joshua

Congratulations to the lovely couple Annaliese + Joshua! Such a privilege to play for your beautiful wedding. We are still buzzing with excitement from being part of all that loveliness, playing for your cocktail set before the super-fun and happy bridal party entrance… 😉

P.S Art Space at Fremantle turned out to be one of the most creative spaces we have played for weddings at in W.A! And not without the lovely and very talented Jessica Butcher, of course. What an eye for art. We will let the pictures speak for themselves.

With a touch of pink, an industrial art space with character could also start breathing with warm, bubbly love. Stylist Jess confesses it can be haaard convincing a groom to have pink seats.. but our groom was just too cool to refuse! We wish the lovely pair a beautiful start to a wonderful life together as husband and wifey!!

Weddings: Ukulele Jazz at Matilda Bay with Polkadot + Moonbeam

It’s not everyday one gets to enjoy a jazz ukulele performance at the gorgeous Matilda Bay. Gentle waves on the blue waters, and a setting sun behind a quirky tepee!!! Well, Polkadot + Moonbeam sure did! 😉

When we first played at a wedding fair in a tepee (TP&Co), we met the lovely couple, Radhika + Dennis. A few months later, we found ourselves once again reunited with the tepee (tipi) by the beautiful Bay. There aren’t that many breath-taking spots just outside the CBD area and Perth definitely has Matilda Bay rockin’ up with a trophy, easily.

Of course, this wasn’t possible without the highly creative eye… and hands(!) of Jessica Butcher. Once again we have the pleasure of working with her. She understands the use of space, gets beauty and function all at once, and most all, her signature for us, is her use of eucalypts in her table arrangements and room decor. Just spectacular.

It was so easy just swaying up with our tinkles by the sea over classics like La Mer, The Nearness of You and more. Champagne, cocktails and little dainty savoury delights as we waited for the guests to arrive.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Mason and David from mdttography. Young and incredibly talented videographers. Then the DJs Hester and Lester brought the soul unto the dance floor for the evening. R+D’s very cute and groovy entrance opened the night’s celebrations as P+M made their way back to their little automobile, watching the sunset over the horizon.
