Bidding 2020 Adieu

Bidding 2020 Adieu

Thank you for joining us in bidding 2020 adieu at Le Petit Concert 2 on Boxing Day! We had so much fun pulling out some ol’ toys and swingin’ with you. Before we leave you with our thoughts, here’s as promised:

Byebye 2020, and our thoughts

It was a shock when covid-19 hit Australia. As things went through various waves, we were compelled to think these questions: what’s next, will this pass, and perhaps, even – what is your purpose in life?

The latter really was what ironically propelled many into thanksgiving. The human specie’s need to survive is often beyond what we could imagine. In the face of destruction, there’s a desire that surfaces when we think nothing else could happen – to be strong enough to hope, so that we could move forward.

And many of us managed, and did.

Some of our peers, pulled out some pretty heavy ammo. If this was going to hit us, we got to be better, happier, more alive.

Then so much of that overwhelmed us. The need to rest and quietly, but fiercely believe then took over. There is more to life – we just knew deep within – than the fight. It is also about the living, that is, enjoying the moments in between the wait and the destination, if there be any at all.

For Polkadot + Moonbeam, there were massive shifts of perspective from beneath, but like a swan busily steering its new path, there appears perhaps only a tiny a ripple of change on the surface. You probably saw us less on socials. For us it is about digging deeper into why we do this. The kind of music we really love. It may not be moving towards where the jewels sparkle, and the gold tempts, but it is not wasting anymore time swimming in lukewarm waters.

In 2015 we made a huge shift from playing pop music to focussing on our vintage swing. It isn’t that we don’t like pop. It is just that there are only these number of years we get to learn and breathe the music and stories we love of jazz, and every time we choose to learn a song we give our heart and soul to it. So much invested into something we know we aren’t interested in growing just wouldn’t be wise.

I always love to give the analogy of us shopping for shoes. We don’t mind spending a bunch on shoes, but the problem is, we know exactly what we want. On the shelf, there sits always an empty space for that perfect pair of shoes for our silly feet. And then,… one day many moons later,… we spot them – the ones! And you never want to waste another second looking elsewhere. (I still try to convince Moonbeam to buy a back up pair since he is so particular, but he is strong, and faithful.)

So yes it isn’t a case of walking away from what we hate or dislike but a serious commitment to what we love, and can’t wait to jump into. It also means we wish to focus on family, and our relationship, which is the soil for our music and creativity. You may see us less on social media, but more on live concerts like the one we just did. Sign up for our mailing list, so you’d be the first to be notified.

The fact that you are reading this, you get this deep stuff, right?

We may all have different stories. But without a doubt, we know you never realised you could do this, did you? Well done, you.

We made it. Happy New Year, wise one. Here’s to 2021!

xx
