We loved playing at the Hawaiian themed party for ACCA at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club at Mosman Bay, WA. Thank you Champion Music for the gig!
Mini-hula girl paper figures, mini-palm trees, mini-pink flamingos and mini-tropical macaws paper figures peppered the entire room. Suddenly the room was lit with all the gorgeous hawaiian colours. Hibiscus, orchids tucked behind the ladies’ ears, flower wreaths draped over all the furniture in the room, as well as the necks of party guests. It was spectacular. I had to comment to one happy guest who came up to thank us for the music that it was the most colourful cocktail party we had played for yet!
A few of our favourite musical moments happened over popular tunes like Frank Sinatra’s Polkadots and Moonbeams and Nat King Cole’s Route 66, played at a breezy beach-like pace, spotted with little ‘chucks’ that tend to get people twisting their hips and snapping their fingers. We also had a request for Judy Garland’s ‘Over The Rainbow’ which we sang in harmony and gave a bit of a P+M touch.
What was most amazing from our stage point-of-view was the crazy storm that was raging outside. For the 3rd time that month, ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ was exactly how we felt. (It isn’t quite so honest when you sing it in a city that is tropical 365 days in a year…) But right there in our warm little function room were popping colours, sweet ukulele strums, straw hats and later …. an engaging magic show by Mario The (Almost) Magnificent Mario (that’s an understatement, and exactly why we love him).
Truly an unforgettable night especially for my uke and I. 🙂
