It was a beautiful backyard wedding, and we feel so blessed to be that musical part of Janis’ and Andrew’s intimate and yet spectacular special day in Wanneroo. The backyard and gardens were filled with the sweet aroma of home-grown banksias, and proteas and other Australian Natives as the bride revealed was from ‘ “lady down the road” ‘.
We had so many compliments from so many of our guests. We are so glad we had you both. – Janis & Andrew
Moonbeam commented as we turned up early for the setup that I bet you’d never seen a bride vacuum her floor an hour before her ceremony. It is true. Janis is just the coolest and most at-ease bride. With the contributions from her family and friends, she’d coordinated the entire wedding. I still remember her swinging up her driveway just 2 hours before the wedding and breezily asked if we needed a park at the patio. I thought to myself, such a beautiful, immaculately organised celebration of love and the lovebirds were completely calm and happy – these two truly understand the love they have and what they are celebrating. It wasn’t just an ostentatious occasion that was going to be social-media glamorous and spectating. It was just organically, beautiful, meaningful, and wonderful.
We played the pre-ceremony and cocktail sets, sandwiching the moving and intimate moments conducted by Kim (KM Celebrations) and tunes performed by her high-school bestie and singer Sandy. We love participation from friends and family because whenever it happens, we know the couple’s greatest joys come also from the love and blessings from their closest ones.
You guys were great. So glad we have you. – Celebrant Kim (KM Celebrations)
We have no idea who was the talent behind the fantastic vintage-door-arbour but it is just marvellous. And as you can see, Moonbeam couldn’t help a little bit of a pose. A tune with the motif of a door came to mind – ‘Days of Wine & Roses’ by Henry Mancini, except that this was truly an open door to the beginning of many colourful adventures.
Our favourite moments were over ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ (the guests were tucked safe under marquee by then) when it lightly drizzled under the pretty night skies, ‘Our Love Is Here to Stay’ right after the couple kissed at their ceremony and proceeded up the steps from their mini-outdoor amphitheatre of a backyard. It was just spectacular. Here’s a shot of the talented and sweetest Chantelle (Chantelle Venter Photography) at work captured between during our mini-break:
We were also stoked to tag-team with Ari & Dave on guitar and drums. They knew how to get those feet stomping on the dance floor all night long. We love working with great people. Great hearts. Congrats Janis and Andrew, thank you for having us. We are so happy for you both. xx Our thank yous also go out to Chantelle, Kim, Ari, Dave, Nosh Catering, Sandy. Thank you for being amazing peeps to work with.

Every couple’s story is so precious to them and their wedding is but an extension and celebration of that. A singer-friend once commented that she didn’t always want to sing for weddings… I understood what she meant, career-wise wanting a bigger audience and a more successful career where the world would hear her – but yet, it made me question if i did and then I realised how I loved celebrating for weddings. For us, when someone decides to have us in such a private and sacred space of theirs, and invites us to be a part, it is really more than just a live music performance. We feel like the wedding team, and perhaps for a day, like close family, supporting through visual and musical entertainment, technical assistance, and at times emotional needs. I pen this here because I want to, because probably not many read prose, or read at all, perhaps. But every now and then, something magical like this Backyard Wedding happens, and I remember exactly why we love our job.
