Surprise Wedding Proposal at Caversham House

Surprise Wedding Proposal at Caversham House

Caversham House truly is beautiful, making it ever a good place (and possibly always a great time) for a surprise wedding proposal. That was how groom-to-be made up his mind days before and decided to pop the question after 9 years of dating his girlfriend, now fiancee, on the spectacular grounds of the estate.

Caversham House’s Hidden Gardens

We arrived early and inspected the grounds and found 2 more pairs of love birds were present at the Hidden Gardens. Pre-wedding photos would look incredible on those romantic rustic bridges, and the cascading waterfalls.

Exploring Hidden Gardens

But what kept our little hearts thumping was the excitement for our pair of sweethearts. We found out that he had only decided on a holiday to WA that this was THE day, and decided to surprise his girlfriend after booking her a helicopter flight. It would arrive at 3:40pm and the precision of the moments were crucial. He revealed to us how nervous he was, wiping his sweat beads off his sides. We assured him it would be amazing.

He did amazing! His lady walked down the aisle looking innocent to all that hassle, and a little confused. We felt so much for her! We played and Moonbeam sang their song request ‘You are my sunshine’ as she walked towards him down at the Colonnade. He stood, like a boy, with his heartstrings pulled by the one thing that was walking towards him, helpless, willing and given, and finally passed the bouquet to her.

A Heartwarming Little Tea Party Celebration

We won’t share details of his proposal, sacred to them. But we knew that the moment would be something they treasure in their hearts forever. When she uttered those 2 words (or rather 3 words in Mandarin), we played and sang Colbie Caillat’s upbeat love song ‘I do’, and everyone cheered. The camera crew took over capturing close ups of those first moments of their new adventures together. A little blue icing cake, humble, but lovely, slightly disfigured by eager happy and excited lil’ children of close friends and family (part of the surprise!), was their form of breaking bread, celebration, over champagne and canapes.

Moonbeam said asked me cheekily, “What is it with men and their flying machines and their ladies?” (see below insta-post with heli landing). To which I smiled knowingly, thinking about our surprise first date he splurged on his musician’s salary on a sea-plane in Sydney 2010. He made a little video for me on his ipod after and that is why, I know, this pair, like us would always look back on the day with happy memories, and maybe a tear or two.
